Hello Medford High School Rowers, Parents and Guardians!

Last Sunday, May 4th the team got up bright and early to send a whole flotilla to scrimmage with local teams.

While we enjoyed a beautiful day and great rowing conditions, shifting winds made it a bit difficult to compare times. Some boats were aided by tailwinds, while others had to fight side winds that pushed them off course.

Our Novice Mixed 4+ started the day off with Emma Benaoi coxswaining for Peter Patalano, Benson Hargreaves, Sophie Hook, and Laura Suarez and finished in 7:00.23. They then shaved 8.13 seconds off their time for the finals and beat the Everett Mixed 8!

Next, Lila Alberto led Kaitlin Materazzo, Georgia Hargreaves, Meg Matarese, and Oumniya Benalia in the Girls Varsity 4+ for a 6:37.2 finish. They pulled 16.21 seconds off that time for their second race to beat the Everett Boys Varsity 4+ by 1.62 seconds.

Sabina Li and AD Charlton rowed our Girls Varsity Double for 5:56.56 and 6:07.5 finishes.

Jayden Wu and Owen Barczak-Kroll rowed our Boys U17 2x with finishes of 5:18.1 and 5:27.33.

Our Boys Varsity 2x was rowed by Scott Campbell and Adam Sayres. They finished their first race in 5:50.5 and then took 3.22 seconds off that for the second race.

Alex Bress coxswained our Boys Varsity 4+ with Carlos Laredo, Harry Mumma, Enrique Matos, and Nicholas Metais. They finished their first race in 6:16.7and then cut it down to 5:27.33, the 3rd fastest time, overall.

Matt Stricker, Euan Rees, Charles Orcutt, and James Cluggish rowed our Boys Varsity 4x in 4:47.29 and then 4:41, the 2nd fastest time overall.

The team did very well and the coaches noted that the whole team has been progressing. Everyone, from our new rowers who are learning the basics to our experienced rowers who are finetuning their techniques, is seeing the results of their hard work.

Thank you to all the parents who came to help out and support our team.

The Mystic Mashup was a great success thanks to our planning team. Richard Whelan, the Gentle Giant coach; Katherine Faigen, the Somerville coach and our own Chris Serene pulled through to deliver our only home race of the season.

Great work everyone. Stay tuned for our next race, the Amber Z Regatta!
